The Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, on February 23rd
NORCROSS, GA – U.S. Kids Golf has announced that Honda, the Official Vehicle of U.S. Kids Golf, will present the 2015 U.S. Kids Golf Player of the Year Awards during the Honda Classic golf tournament in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, on February 23, 2016.
This year’s winners are Yae Eun Kim, 13, from Santiago City in the Dominican Republic and Luke Clanton, 12, of Miami Lakes, Florida. Honda has provided special invitations for the winners and their families to attend the Honda Classic at PGA National Resort where the young players will receive their awards.
The award will be presented to the top rated boy and girl for their competitive golf season during 2015. To be eligible, players must earn Player of the Year honors at a U.S. Kids Golf Local Tour in the United States. This is done by winning the Local Tour points standings and competing in four or more events within a season from the previous year's summer season through the current year's spring season. Players must participate in an 18-hole age group during the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship (Girls 10 and older, Boys 9 and older).
The National Player of the Year Award winner is the highest finisher at the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship who meets the above criteria. In the event of a tie, the lowest score relative to par at the event will determine the winner.
Clanton finished 1st in the boys 11 division for the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship and Kim finished in 2nd place in the girls 12 division for the World Championship. In Pinehurst, North Carolina.
“The U.S. Kids Golf National Player of the Year Award is the highest honor that we can bestow on these great junior golfers,” stated Dan Van Horn, President and CEO for U.S. Kids Golf. “We are very proud of their accomplishments made throughout the year in competitive play, and we look forward to watching their golf games develop in the future. We are pleased to continue to partner with Honda as we present the Player of the Year awards.”
Yae Eun began playing golf at the age of 3 in the Dominican Republic where she was introduced to the game of golf by her older brother Yoo Soo. She won over a dozen tournament in the Dominican Republic, U.S. Virgin Islands and Florida in 2015. She finished 4th in the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship in 2014. Kim is currently in 7th grade and is an exemplary student and a veracious reader.
In addition to golf she enjoys soccer, music and painting. She does not have a golf team in her school, but she has been selected to be on the National Golf Team for the Dominican Republic. Her dream for the future is to play collegiate golf and to continue to have fun playing the game.
Luke was introduced to the game of golf by his current golf coach/caddie father when he was 3 years old. He has finished 1st in multiple tournaments since 2011, including the U.S. Kids Golf Florida State Championship, Junior Masters, the South Florida PGA Junior Tour and the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship at Pinehurst. When he is not being home-schooled by his mother or hitting golf balls, Luke enjoys traveling with his family, snowboarding and playing with his older sisters. Luke looks forward to playing college golf and advancing to possibly joining his PGA Tour idols Jordan Spieth and Jason Day as a PGA Tour player in the future.
Winning the National Player of the Year Award will offer Kim and Clanton an exemption for all U.S. Kids Golf events through age 18. Additionally, Honda has invited both winners to an experience of a lifetime to participate in the Honda Classic Gold Pro-Am during the Honda Classic. The award winners and their families will be guests of Honda during the Classic.
“Honda is pleased to continue to work with the U.S. Kids Golf Foundation, which is dedicated to family interaction and helping kids to have fun learning and playing the game of golf,” said Susie Rossick, Senior Manager, Regional Marketing for American Honda Motor Company. “Honda’s commitment to growing the game of golf extends from this connection with the best junior golfers in the world through the finest professional golfers in the world during the Honda Classic.
